This post used to be "isolated gateways" during the pandemic and we´ve changed it to Romantic. Romantic does not mean high end or expensive. Here are a few private hotels and get away from it all.
We all find ourself searching for a way to get away from it all and recharge your mind, body and soul. Here are some of our favorite isolated hotels in Guatemala. Don´t let the pandemic ruin your plans, just be a good traveler and prepare for your trip.
Posada del Angel
Antigua Guatemala
One of the first Boutique Hotels in Antigua. Its fine decoration and style is timeless. With great taste this small and luxury boutique styles has it all. The views, the decoration and the quiet space. We have our top 2 favorite rooms of this hotel which are gorgeous.
Villa Sumaya
Lake Atitlan
This is actually a retreat and wellness center located in Santa Cruz. As they are dedicated to rejuvenate holistic practices it has a great location, with perfect volcano views. It is one of our favorite places to eat at the lake. Even if you don´t do yoga, this is a very very isolated and beautiful place to stay.
Isla Verde
Lake Atitlan
There is no vehicle access to Isla Verde. It can only be reached by boat. A 10 minute boat ride from the main village of Panajachel. Each of Isla Verde cabins boasts spectacular views, has a great restaurant and sun deck with beatiful palm roof yoga sala, wood fired hot tub and sauna.
Unicronio Azul
Huehuetenango
This is the most isolated you can get. It is hidden in one of the valleys of Sierra de los Cuchumatanes (the highest non-volcanic region in all Central America), were you will find a cozy traditional house in the middle of authentic rural Guatemala. There are five simple cozy rooms. The point of being here are the Horse Riding Tours through valleys and views you have never imagined. Each ride is a unique experience of coexistance with nature. There are from one hour ride to several day rides.
Finca La Soledad
Between Reu & Xela
Guatemalans are used to the volcano views from Antigua and Lake Atitlán. We grew around volcanoes and as someone from Brazil once told me "Annie, this is not normal", volcano views are something special. We recently discovered this coffee farm in a romantic weekend. There is definitely something special about waking up to the view of Santa Maria and Santiaguito (active) and being surrounded by a coffee plantation in the middle of nowhere.
Boatique Hotel and Marina
Rio Dulce
Located in the jungles of Guatemala. Hotel and marina accisible only by a 5 minute boat ride from town of Rio Dulce. Thatched roof cabanas, sailboat available for lodging and sailing, hammocks, scattered throughout the property, lanterns and eco-friendly elegance, created the perfect peaceful environment for jungle vacation.
Jungle Lodge
Tikal
Recently remodeled this new hotel has an entire good reason to stay other than to be inside the National Park of Tikal. It was founded in 1956 to provide lodging for archeologists from the University of Pennsylvania, but soon began opening its doors to tourists as Tikal became por internationally known. Jungle Lodge is almost entirely surrounded by nature, guests often see tropical birds, monkeys, raccoons and other animals.
